MODULAR APPARATUS FOR THE DEMINERALIZATION OF LIQUIDS
A modular system for the demineralization of aqueous liquids comprising a plurality of modular units for the demineralization of liquids, each of the modular units being encapsulated and having a cathode proximate a first end of the modular unit and an anode proximate the opposite end of said modular, and having a plurality of alternating diluting compartments and concentrating compartments positioned between the cathode and the anode, the diluting and concentrating compartments defined by anion and cation permeable membranes, ion exchange material positioned within the diluting compartments, the system having conduit means for passing a first liquid to be purified through the diluting compartments and conduit means for passing a second liquid through the concentrating compartments for accepting ions from the first liquid, means for passing an electrolyte to the cathode and anode and means for recovering the purified liquid from the diluting compartments. Quick release securement means are provided to interconnect the modular units in the system to allow for facile substitution of modular units for servicing and to permit modification of flow capacity requirements by increasing or decreasing the total number of modular units in the system.

Condensate demineralization
In a demineralization apparatus, a mixed bed of a gel type cation exchange resin having a moisture holding capacity of 41% or less or a degree of crosslinkage of 12% or greater is employed along with a porous type anion exchange resin. As a result, oxidation degradation of the cation exchange resin due to hydrogen peroxide can be inhibited and the performance of the ion exchange resins and of the condensate water demineralizer can be stabilized and maintained for a long period of time.

Continuous acidification demineralization process for producing osteoinductive bone; and osteoinductive bone produced thereby
The invention is directed to a process for producing demineralized osteoinductive bone, and demineralized osteoinductive bone produced thereby. The process achieves demineralization of bone by subjecting bone, including for example ground bone, bone cubes, chips, strips, or essentially intact bone, to a rapid continuous acid demineralization process. The process includes subjecting bone to a continuous exchange of demineralizing acid solution where the demineralizing acid solution is recirculated from the substantially closed container through an ion exchange media to remove calcium and phosphate thereby producing a regenerated acid, and returning the regenerated acid to the substantially closed container to produce osteoinductive demineralized bone. The process allows bone to be rapidly demineralized to a precise and specific desired residual calcium level, without sacrificing osteoinductivity.

Method of mixed-bed filtration and demineralization with ion-exchange resins
A method of mixed-bed filtration and demineralization for removing suspended impurities from the primary cooling water in a power plant by means of a demineralizer having a mixed bed formed of a particulate cation and anion exchange resin that have such a surface layer structure that granules are seen to bind with one another under microscopic examination, being able to be operated in a safe and yet economical manner by virtue of established conditions for operating processes, such as regeneration of the demineralizer by backwashing and by passage of chemicals and also, replacement of the demineralizer.

Demineralization apparatus and cloth for packing diluting chamber of the demineralization apparatus
The invention is a demineralization apparatus comprising an anode chamber disposed at one end of a vessel having an anode at the inside of the anode chamber. A cathode chamber is disposed at the other end of the vessel, having a cathode at the inside of the cathode chamber. At lease one diluting chamber and at least one concentrating chamber are located alternately between the anode chamber and the cathode chamber. The diluting chamber has an anion exchange membrane on the anode chamber side and a cation exchange membrane on the cathode chamber side. The diluting chamber has an inlet for water to be treated and an outlet for demineralized water. The concentrating chamber has an inlet for water and an outlet for ion-concentrated water. The diluting chamber contains a cloth comprising a mixture of strongly acidic cation exchange fibers, strongly basic anion exchange fibers and ionically inactive synthetic fibers. Preferably, the mixture contains from 20 to 70% by weight ionically inactive synthetic fibers

Processes for deionization and demineralization of a fluid containing ions comprising:
(a) Loading an amine or ammonia buffer onto a first weakly acidic cation exchange resin to occupy cation exchange sites and to form a first bed comprising a first amine-buffered resin; (b) Passing said fluid containing ions through said first bed comprising said first amine-buffered resin and exchanging cations of said fluid for amine cations of said first amine-buffered resin to form a first effluent comprising an anion-buffer salt complex; (c) Passing said anion-buffer salt complex through a first weakly basic anion exchange resin where an anion portion of said anion-buffer salt complex is split from said anion-buffer salt complex by adsorption of said anion portion onto said weakly basic anion exchange resin to form a second effluent comprising buffer in free hydrated base form;
(d) Passing said buffer in free hydrated base form to a second weakly acidic cation exchange resin where said buffer loads onto said second weakly acidic cation exchange resin as in step (a) and repeating the process of steps (b)-(d); and (e) Regenerating said first weakly acidic cation exchange resin with an organic acid.
