Deep Filters

What are deep filters?

Deep filters use a bed of water treatment media inside a vessel. In sand and anthracite filters, water passes through granular media that retain suspended solids. The bed can contain layers of different media sizes, making it suitable for a range of filtration applications.

What makes them useful?

The choice of media determines the treatment function. This range includes sand and anthracite filtration, activated carbon filtration, iron removal, arsenic treatment and remineralisation.

Key advantages

  • Removal of suspended solids: Sand filtration provides a robust treatment step for surface water and other applications.
  • Backwash cleaning: Sand filters can be cleaned by reversing the water flow to remove accumulated particles.
  • Membrane pretreatment: Sand filtration can be used before membrane systems.
  • Flexible operation: Lenntech sand filters offer manual or automatic backwashing, controlled by time and/or differential pressure.

Sand filters are sized according to the water characteristics and treatment requirements.
