Ultrapurification of gases in a continuous membrane column cascade

Abstract

The high purification of gases from easily penetrating impurities by a cascade of a continuous membrane column type has been investigated experimentally and theoretically. The equations for the separation power of cascades in the case of high purification of gases from low level impurities has been obtained. The efficiency of a continuous membrane column cascade is compared with exergetic efficiency of a multistage symmetric cascade in the case of nonmixed flows at different concentrations.

Conclusion

1. The expressions for separation power of the MC and TMC cascades and for a membrane element with recycle, having an additional condenser, are obtained. It was shown that for the TMC cascade the minimal flow taking place through the condenser and exposed to cooling is observed. 2. The experimental research of the separation process in cascades of a TMC type on argone mixture–heptane vapour was carried out. From the data it follows that with the purified gas less than 0.008% of impurities acting with an initial flow is lost. 3. It was shown that TMC cascades with additional condensation is perspective to apply for gases purification from impurities condensed at low temperature with the help of appropriate coolants.
