Abstract
In this paper, a predictive model for hemodialysis/hemodiafiltration is used to design for the treatment of uremic patients membrane modules more efficient than commercial hemodialysers. Fractionation of the available membrane area into modules alternatively operated in internal and back filtration mode successfully enhanced HMW solute clearance as compared to classical dialysis.
Conclusion
Molecular Weight (g/mol) Fig. 3. Predicted clearance spectrum for dialysis of an albumin solution by different module configurations with Atot=1.35 m²: 1 clinical module (L = 24 cm); 2 serial modules (L1 = 21cm; L2 = 3 cm); 4 serial modules (L1 = L3 = 9cm, L2 = L4 = 3 cm);— normal kidney [4]. QBin = 300 ml/min; QD = 520 ml/min; overall Qf = 0 ml/min.
