Conclusion

1. The first plant for RO desalination of brackish water in Croatia with a capacity of 300m3/d of fresh water, manufactured by the U AT Company (USA), located in Prgovo Polje on the island of Lastovo operated flawlessly during a 1-year period. 2. The productivity and quality of fresh water p roduced surpassed the forecast values in the feasibility study. The manufacturer's projected performances were reached easily and maintained. 3. The only real problem was a shortage of p umping stations for transport of fresh water and transfer of brine to the sea, which were carried o ut by local contractors, therefore preventing the automatic operation of the whole system with minimal input of personnel and manual handling. 4. The results which were attained with this first plant justify the application of this technology in every case where a lack of fresh water exists, be it a or permanent temporary solution.
