Conclusion
T he improvement in the flux as a result of o perating the plant in a cyclic model was s uccessfully predicted by the simple model. The m odifications applied to the model lead to p ermeation rates which were in close agreement w ith the experimental data for the considered f orcing functions, namely, sine and asymmetric square waves. T he experimental results showed that operat ion of RO membranes in the unsteady-state m ode using an asymmetric pressure square wave f unction may lead to improvements in both the p ermeation rates and the salt rejection of the system. For the case of permeation rates the e xperimental data exhibited an overall trend with a m aximum permeate rate occurring at a time split, y, of about 0.65.
