Conclusion
For a large desalination plant with an output of approximately 100,000 m3/day, the aforementioned water intake system presents numerous advantages over a plant using vertical wells. The most important advantages are: The filtration layer does not need to be large. A depth of between 6 and 10 m is sufficient. The capacity of each drain is greater than that of a vertical well, meaning that fewer wells are needed in total. In general, the filtration area of horizontal wells are larger than those of vertical wells leading to smaller depressions, meaning that the energy consumption of the plant is lower.
