Conclusion

Zeolites can be used as an efficient means of immobilizing cytochrome c, although its efficiency strongly depends on the characteristics of the zeolitic membranes. Although the interaction of the cytochrome c with the support is probably only at the external surface, the framework composition is also an important factor influencing the immobilization performances. Considering also that the cytochrome c shows an extremely good stability with these supports, the application of zeolite membranes as supports in biotechnological applications seems very promising.
