Conclusion

The organic filler TMSG was incorporated into the two glassy polymers PTMSP and EC, resulting in reversed effects on their gas permeability. For PTMSP the reduction of permeability with filler content was far higher than the theoretical prediction (Maxwell equation) for the addition of impermeable fillers. For ethyl cellulose a strong increase of permeability with filler content was found leading to the development of composite membranes attractive for industrial oxygen enrichment. In this case the filler increased the chain mobility leading to increased diffusion coefficients.
