About ultrafiltration modules

Ultrafiltration (UF) modules contain membranes that separate suspended solids, colloids and microorganisms from water. The module brings the membrane surface together in an assembly through which feedwater and filtered water can flow. UF is used in water treatment and can also serve as a pretreatment step before reverse osmosis.

Module types and configurations

UF membranes are available in hollow-fibre, tubular, spiral-wound and plate-and-frame geometries. Hollow-fibre modules contain many small fibres that provide membrane surface area within a compact assembly. Depending on the design, filtration takes place from the inside of the fibres to the outside, or in the opposite direction. UF systems may use pressurised modules or immersed membranes.

Comparing modules for your application

Module geometry and configuration influence the space required, pretreatment needs and cleaning approach. The suitable choice therefore depends on the feedwater and treatment process. Lenntech's UF plant information covers applications using groundwater, seawater and surface water, with design conditions that vary by water source.

Explore the brand pages above for product details, and consult the module-specific datasheets when comparing options. For background on the filtration process, see what ultrafiltration is; for complete treatment systems, explore ultrafiltration plants.
