bsCOD - biodegradable soluble Chemical Oxygen Demand

bsCOD - biodegradable soluble Chemical Oxygen Demand

bsCOD is used in the wastewater treatment world as acronym for "biodegradable soluble Chemical Oxygen Demand". It is an essential parameter for determining the part of the COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) that is biologically degradable or that can be oxidised by e.g. activated sludge in a biological wastewater treatment plant (wwtp) such as used in sewer waste water treatment. Another term or acronym that is used for bsCOD is BOD. However BOD can also contain non-soluble or dissolved BOD matter, which would not readily be oxidised in a wwtp. There for one can establish the following definition:

BOD = sBOD + nbsBOD

and,

COD = BOD + nbCOD
