Water softener

The hardness in water is caused by certain salts. The main hardness causing ions are Calcium (Ca2+), Magnesium (Mg2+) and Bicarbonate (HCO3-). These ions are normally addressed as scale in the water causing (lime) scaling of pipes and equipment.
Softening units offer a solution.

In many applications, e.g. the preparation of drinking water, water in breweries and sodas, but also cooling- and boiler feed water the hardness of the water is of importance.

The hardness is normally measured in German-, French Hardness or (equivalent) concentration Ca²⁺. Softeners are specific ion exchangers which are designed to remove ion with a multiple positive charge. When the resin in the softener is filled with Ca²⁺ions, you need to regenerate with a salt solution.

The FLECK valves can be 'time' or 'quantity' controlled.

Time controlled means; a regeneration can be regulated by a time clock. You can adjust the FLECK considering the amount of water you use, and the hardness of the water. For instance; a regeneration every two days.

With a quantity controlled valve, the FLECK measures the amount of water softened. When regeneration is needed, the softener will start to regenerate.

The maintenance for a water softener is nil. You need to fill your brine tank with regeneration salt when it's almost empty.
