Sandfiltration

Sandfiltration could be applied for the removal of biomass, phosphate, iron, manganese and heavy metals. 

The name sandfiltration suggest that the filtermedia is sand but there are three kinds of media in the sandfiltration:  

• sand

• active carbon 

• anthracite

Sand is a robust technique and is frequently applied in horticulture because of years of reliability. 

Active carbon is suitable as last step in the watertreatment or in watertreatment with a concentration particles between 20 mg/L and 40 mg/L for removal of organic compounds. 

Anthracite is commenly used for treatment of boilerwater.
