Spray chamber

In spray chambers or spray towers water is divided in fine drops or misted, generally by means of adjudges or "nozzles" in the scrubber, whereas the gas tangential below, therefore in counter-current, it is invoked. Due to the centrifugal function an already pre-separator of rough particles act below the column. Performance of co- or cross flow of spray towers is also not possible but for not for dust scrubbing (only for disposal of gaseous components). For the disposal of fine particles a high L/G ratio is needed. The separation efficiency vary between 70 and 99% dependent on particle size partitioning.

The advantages of spray chamber are:

  • Simple performance

  • No risk on clogging and pollution in the wash section

  • Beside dust also gaseous components are broken away from

  • Available in several construction material

  • Insensitive for fluctuating gas flows

  • Low pressure drops

  • Requires little place

The disadvantages are:

  • The performance with spray nozzles with small openings requires a clean wash fluid

  • Are possible clogging in the adjudges with a very large efficiency loss as result

  • Little efficiently for the disposal of fine dust particles

  • The mass transfer is little efficient

Spray scrubbers are applied on all kinds of places, among other things in:

  • The chemical industry for the dissidence of substance and aerosols

  • The metallurgy for several types degasses

  • Waste combustion installations

  • Gasification processes

  • Potato industry for the disposal of starch

  • Glass industry

  • Melting processes in the metallurgy

  • Foundries

  • Sinter processes

  • Dry processes

  • Manure production

  • Pharmaceutical industry

  • Plastic industry
