Biotricklingfilter |
|
| The biotricklingfilter is a combination between a
biofilter and
bioscrubber. The bacteria which ensure the decomposition has been immobilised on a
carrier or filter material. This filter material exists from syntheticfoam, structured from lava- or plasticpacking. The surface must be such a structure that the biomass can attach itself to the filter. The carrier material is constantly irrigated with water. The water has to be sprayed uniformly over the packing. The polluting components absorb in the fluid film and broken by the bacteria. To the water the necessary nutrients are added to feed the biomass. The washing water which is circulated over the packing must be checked on pH, nutrients and salt concentration. The pH can be measured continuously and corrected if necessary. |

The nutrients are constantly dosed and the dosage are periodical checked by analyses. To keep the salt concentration in acceptable borders , a part must be blown off and to be made up with fresh water. This can happen on the basis of conductivity. The strong increase of the biofilm can create a hold up in the biotricklingfilter. Because of this, some streams will reduce the efficiency and the pressure drop will occur. At too strong hold up the packing must be replaced. For the designing it is important not to overload the filter to prevent hold up. The advantages of the biotricklingfilter are:
The disadvantages are:
Biotricklingfilters are mainly applied to remove gases with sour components. Applied in the water purification installations, textile industry, tobacco industry, odor disposal from to stable.
